Adult Gummy Bears

Ran across this idea on Pinterest (where else) the other day for adult gummy bears. Whoever thought of this was brilliant and it works on either bears or worms. The gummies absorb most of the vodka and will expand to be about twice their size. The vodka left in the bottom makes a very tasty shot.

Vodka Soaked Gummies

Ingredients:
1 package gummy bears or worms
1 pint vodka

Directions:
1. Put gummies in a small mason jar
2. Cover the gummies with vodka (make sure it covers all the gummies)
3. Seal the jar, and place in the fridge for 3 days. Shake a few times each day
4. Remove gummies from jar* let dry out on a tray or bowl for an hour or so, then store in a zip lock bag in the fridge.

*Don’t forget to drink the vodka from the bottom of the mason jar!

The Bloody Mary Test

I just recently started liking bloody mary’s, I love tomatoes so it was always a huge surprise to everyone when I told them I didn’t like them. I always really wanted to like them, they always looked so pretty and fancy with all the garnishes.

I recently tried one at the Denver, Colorado airport of all places and was hooked. It was perfectly spicy, not too thick and the tomato juice wasn’t overpowering. I haven’t really found a pre-made mix that I liked, so I decided to try to make my own. I started researching and looking at a few different recipes. A lot of people suggested just adding things to tomato juice until it tasted good, but that didn’t really seem like a solid plan.

I found a few recipes with most of the same ingredients, so I decided to use that as my base and add as I went. I tried 3 different recipes and ultimately my taste tester (the boyfriend) and I decided that the most basic recipe won. We felt like the addition of the horseradish made it taste too much like cocktail sauce, and the addition of the garlic was just too savory.

I will do my best to get as close to each measurement as I can, but really starting out with the basic recipe and adding as you go isn’t a bad way to do it. Do you have a good Bloody Mary mix recipe!? Please share 🙂

(the mess I made in my kitchen…)

Recipe #1 (the basic – and the winner)

3 cups tomato juice
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 1/2 Tbs. worcestershire sauce
1 tsp hot sauce (tabasco is great)
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 1/2 cups vodka

Mix all ingredients in a pitcher (aside from vodka) let sit over night. Add chilled vodka in before you serve

Recipe #2 (our second favorite)

1 1/2 Tbs. worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic
1 tsp hot sauce (tabasco is great)
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 1/2 cups vodka

Mix all ingredients in a blender (aside from vodka). Place pureed juice into a pitcher and let sit over night. Add chilled vodka in before you serve

Recipe #3 (we thought tasted too much like cocktail sauce)

1 tsp hot sauce (tabasco is great)
3/4 tsp salt
